Henrys Hus, the activity house that we have been taking about since our 2nd post was officially opened yesterday on 14th October. It was especial day for Porsgrunn Røde Kors Ungdom as they had a long way to come here.
Porsgrunn Røde Kors Ungdom was started in February 2016. One of their first activity was Language Café where they helped refugees to learn Norwegian language. They used to meet once in a week and the volunteers would make waffles and help refugees to learn language.
One day Sara (leader of Porsgrunn Røde Kors) and Ida (Local Contact Person of Former Youth Delegates in Telemark) were sitting in a café and discussing about the possibility of having social arena for the youths in Porsgrunn. So, they applied for the fund to start social activity house. Norwegian Red Cross provided them 2 million kroners for the start up. That’s how it all started.
Now, Henrys Hus has a cafe where people can come and enjoy a nice cup of coffee with waffles, play shuffelboard or just hang out. There is also a gaming room where the youths can come and enjoy themselves and many more activities yet to come...
Many people came to Henrys Hus yesterday on the occasion of opening including the Mayor of Porsgrunn and our national coordinator for Youth Delegate Exchange Program, Odilia Haussler Melbøe. There was some entertainment, music and of course, Suffelboard where everyone was waiting for their turn to play.
An idea, an initiation, lots of determination and hard work has laid to Henrys Hus. It is a new phase for Porsgrunn Røde Kors Ungdom and we are really excited for all the upcoming possibilities.
