congratulation to International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN)

Hi everyone,

Thank you so much for continuing following our blog.

In this blogpost, we would like to share information about the Nobel Peace Prize. This prize is granted every year in Norway. This year, the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN) was awarded for its work to raise awareness about the humanitarian consequences of nuclear weapons and promoting the adopted Treaty Prohibiting Nuclear Weapons.

Regarding that, on Friday 8th of December, we attended a seminar about prohibiting nuclear weapons in Oslo. It described the humanitarian impact of nuclear weapons, the risks associated, and why disarmament is a highly important and relevant topic today. The General Secretary of the Norwegian Red Cross was among the speakers and talked about the disarmament of nuclear weapons as a humanitarian imperative.

After this seminar, we understood more that humanitarian work can be impacted by the nuclear weapons. It was shocking to think about its consequences: the people affected, the lives which will be destroyed, global climate changes and starvation risk.

Did you know that nuclear weapons can vaporise everything just because of its temperature? This is an illustration of the power of nuclear weapons.

On Sunday 10th, we went for a torchlight rally in Oslo. This was organized by the Norwegian Peace Council to honour ICAN and to support prohibition of nuclear weapons. The Norwegian Red Cross Youth was affiliated to it as well. It was great😊. Here you are some pictures and video from that.

FELICITATION A INTERNATIONAL CAMPAIGN TO ABOLISH NUCLEAR WEAPONS (ICAN)
