Tihar is a symbolic celebration of good over evil and the lifting of spiritual darkness. It is a festival where people expressed their happiness by lighting diyas, bursting firecrackers, decorating houses, inviting near and dear ones to their house. On our previous blog, we shared some information regarding this festival. Today we are going to tell you about our festival in Norway. Are you excited to know? :)
Everyone feels bad and misses their home when you are far especially during festival. We felt the same but we decided to celebrate here in Bærum with youths in fellesverket. We prepared nepali food- rice and lentiles (bhat and dal) and made rangoli at the entrance door of fellesverket house. we lighted whole house with candles.
Typical Cultural song “Deusi”
Deusi is traditional song which provides a cultural entertainment by a group and sung during this festival. People go to various homes in their community and then sing the song and dance. The lead person generally sung a song and others only say deusi. At the end of song, the woman of the house serve food, sweets and give money to the singers and dancers. In return, the Deusi team gives blessings for high income and prosperity.
We talked with youths about our typical song and they were interested. We celebrated deusi bhailo with youths. They enjoyed nepali typical cultural song.
We had lots of fun and enjoyed . They were very happy and loved to sing our typical song. We exchanged our culture and shared about how we celebrate this biggest festival. They were also curious about our typical dress and we told them about our cultural dress.
This is how we celebrated our festivals with foods, singing typical songs and dancing.
