Our first weeks in Tsiroanomandidy has not only been spent exploring the village. Although we have been excited about our new home, we are also very happy to have met the Red Cross youth volunteers in our host district.
By now you might have asked yourself what our mission on Madagascar really entails? During our stay, we will work closely with the Red Cross youth volunteers in Tsiroanomandidy district to support and strengthen their capacity. Why? And how* will we do this, you might ask. Throughout several years of volunteering experience, we have both seen and been a part of activities which have benefitted from the youth engagement. The youth possess unique knowledge about topics that concerns and affects them and other generations. We have experienced how their knowledge and innovative ideas has been an important asset in numerous situations.
Therefore, acknowledging young people’s role as contributors will not only be an investment for the future but also for the present for any community, anywhere in the world. We believe that any holistic approach to humanitarian challenges or needs in a local community has to include the involvement of youth to be sustainable and successful. In this regard, strengthening youth capacity can also contribute to increasing youth involvement.
We are sure that the positive spirit, engagement and the capacities that the youth volunteers in Tsiroanomandidy district have shown us, has been important for their previous activities and will continue to be so in the future. Therefor we are excited about working with them and getting to know them even better.
*We will share how we will support and strengthen the youth capacity in Tsiroanomandidy district in another blog post.
