#REDforSYRIA

Symbol of hope for the humanity?

What is the protective emblem?

According to the Geneva Conventions, it isn´t allowed to hurt the people that is using the protective emblem. This is very important for the Red Cross all over the world. With this protection, we can work in conflict zones that the other organizations can´t enter without taking too big of a risk. A very important principle that gives us permission to this is our principle Neutrality. This will say that we are not part of the fight. We are helping everyone that is hurt. We do not take side in the hostilities, politics, race, religion or ideology. Other organizations can also use the emblem if they follow the rules of the protective emblem. We are working side by side to prevent and alleviate human suffering.

Sometimes the rules in war are broken. For example, in September 2016, when many people changed their profile photos on Facebook to red because of the attack against a convoy of humanitarian help in Aleppo, Syria.
