One of our volunteers recently invited us to visit a school where he’s volunteering, and attending a sign language class. Yesterday we joined him for a session and what we found was about 15 motivated sign language students that wants to work for better integration of hearing impaired youths and adults in Lesotho.
They thought us some sign language, which we found very interesting, and we told the students a bit about the Red Cross and YDEP. All of them were very interested in becoming Red Cross volunteers, so we invited them to our next youth meeting - tomorrow.
Exclusion of hearing impaired youths is a big challenge in Lesotho, so we hope to start an activity that will help include them. Since our sign language vocabulary is fairly limited, having these youths on board will be of great help! We very much look forward to the meeting tomorrow.
