All fairy tales come to an end, and this is no exception. The nine month mission as Youth Delegates to Kenya Red Cross Society (KRCS) in Laikipia Branch has come to an end. As we are now heading towards Norway, Laikipia Branch will continue their efforts to strengthen youth structures and the organization is soon ready for a new round of Delegates from Norway.
The last week has been spent in meetings going through the end of mission reports with Laikipia Branch, the youth team at KRCS HQ and Norwegian Red Cross’ regional office in Africa, reflecting on the main achievements of the project and ensuring that positive developments are sustained. In collaboration with youth volunteers in Laikipia Branch, YDEP’s main achievements have been:
The creation of opportunities for youth to plan and implement activities, amongst other through the expansion of the 4-part youth programme planning process, ensured by the establishment of two working groups.
Increased numbers of active volunteers in the Branch, and an increase of 150% participants in youth activities. Re-establishment of regular meeting, improved communication, and training opportunities has attracted new volunteers and retained old ones.
Way forward for the Youth Delegates
In Norway we will meet up with all the other Youth Delegates for a homecoming seminar to have debriefs and present results. All Youth Delegates will then conduct follow-up work with their National Society, bringing back lessons learned and skilled gained.
We are aiming to have a live-stream of a presentation of the Youth Delegates’ missions. Keep an eye on our Facebook-page for a link.
Way forward for YDEP in Laikipia:
The Branch and BYC wil work on three tasks for the coming months: ensure four working groups under the 4- part youth programme; ensure that BYC writes and delivers quarterly work plans before the start of the quarter; conclude the recruitment campaign started by the Youth Delegates.
Way forward for YDEP and Kenya Red Cross Society:
Youth Delegates to and from Kenya and Norway have been selected and will by all accounts be ready to start their respective missions in September.
We want to take this opportunity to say thank you to KRCS, the Youth Team at HQ, the National Coordinator of the project, Shadrack Musyoka, our Local Contact Person, Regional Manager in Central Region Mr. Gitonga Mugambi and Laikipia Branch. And lastly an extra big thanks to all youth volunteers in Laikipia Branch. Thank you for welcoming us so warmly, trusting and supporting us.
